How to Get More Instagram Followers

Instagram has over 1 billion monthly users, and it’s a competitive place to grow your following. Fortunately, the ADVAN team has some tips to share on how to make your business stand out among the competition and get more Instagram followers.

Start an IGTV Series

Video is more popular than ever, and more and more businesses are starting to use Instagram video. To be successful in the IGTV realm, develop a repetitive style and theme so your audience knows what to expect. Think about it from your audience’s point of view and what they want to learn more about. A benefit of IGTV and other similar apps is that you can shoot and even edit your own videos without using a large budget.

Create Longer Post Captions

Instagram allows you to write long-form captions, which gives you the opportunity to let your audience learn more about you or your business, as well as your mission and goals. Sharing more information with your audience creates a stronger relationship. Try sharing “behind the scenes” videos or images to engage new followers, as well as the audience you already have.

Think of Your IG Profile as a Homepage

Do you know what your IG profile looks like to a user who lands on it? Just like your website, your IG profile is your opportunity to make an impression on your audience. Users have a short attention span and make the decision of whether to follow your profile in an instant. Make sure you have an eye-catching profile photo, compelling bio, and active stories. Whether you’re using IG stories, videos, or posts, make sure your branding is strong and consistent across all areas.

Video, Video, Video!

As I mentioned earlier in this post, video is more popular than ever, and audiences are engaging with this type of video on the Instagram platform. Videos also tend to gain more traction on IG feeds, which means you could gain more followers. Video is a must when growing your IG following, so don’t skip this important part of your social media strategy.

Share Photos of Your Team

Posting photos of the team behind your company make the brand more personable and relatable. People want to know about the hard-working team behind the business, just as much as they want to know about the products and services you offer. If you have a team who is willing to share, ask them to post and share content on your IG account about company culture, future plans, and more. As a bonus, this can also help attract potential new employees if you’re looking.

Promote IG Content on Other Social Media Platforms

If you have a company profile on Instagram, you likely use other social media accounts like Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn as well. Share your Instagram page on these other marketing channels to lead your audience to your IG page. In addition, you can add an Instagram feed to your website in order to promote content there. Your weekly or monthly email newsletter is also a place where you can easily link to your Instagram account to gain followers.

Share content from other relevant profiles

Using a mobile app such as Repost allows you to repost content on your profile from another account, similar to sharing a post on Facebook. This does two things. It signals to the profile you shared from that you shared their post and it also shows that you’re not all about yourself. The Instagram algorithm actually looks for this and gives preference to profiles that share the love.

User-Generated Content

This is similar to sharing content but not exactly the same. This method takes a little bit of research. It is a great way to provide content to your followers if you do not have a lot of original content. What you’re going to do is search for a post on Instagram, preferably a high-res photo, and save it to your mobile device or computer. From there, you’re going to post it on your Instagram profile and in the description, you’re going to provide your own original copy, but tag the profile whom you got the photo from.

Communicate with your followers

The Instagram algorithm also gives priority to this. Every time you get a new follower, take a few minutes to follow them back if they align with your brand and then send them a DM (direct message) thanking them for following you and letting them know to contact you if they need anything. The simple act of sending a short message shows the algorithm that you’re engaged with your audience.

Watch Your IG Following Grow

While gaining a larger IG following can seem like a daunting task, using the right techniques can easily get you more followers. Make sure you’re targeting the right audience, be creative, and have some fun, and see how many followers you can gain this year!
